COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland track and field program earned academic honors for their hard work in the classroom during the 2017-18 academic year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Thursday.
Both the men's and women's track and field teams were selected as All-Academic Teams. The men's program was honored for their academics as they finished with a 3.25 GPA. The women's program was selected as one of the 220 women's All-Academic Teams nationally, with a 3.11 GPA.
"Our goal is always to keep academics at the forefront of everything we do," said head coach Andrew Valmon. "I am proud of the balance that our student-athletes have demonstrated through these achievements on and off the track."
Individually, seniors Emma O'Hara and Peyton Wade earned USTFCCCA Individual All-Academic honors.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. OR for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
