COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland field hockey team found balanced scoring in a 6-0 exhibition win over Temple Thursday afternoon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
Junior Madison Maguire scored the opening goal with just over 10 minutes left in the first half. Freshman Bibi Donraadt scored twice, while redshirt freshman Mayv Clune, senior Julie Duncan and junior Kelee Lepage also scored for the Terps.
"I'm super excited about our young players," head coach Missy Meharg said. "Bibi Donraadt coming in and having a couple of goals and Riley Donnelly coming in at right back with great intercepts and counter attacks. It's going to be a super positive piece for us in that area of the field. Our experienced player played so strong. Sophie Giezeman played so strong out of the defensive midfield and Linnea Gonzales is really fun up top. What's most exciting is Hannah Bond was able to play at center back. Both gpalies played a half and both notched a shutout."
Maguire's score in the first half came off of Clune's rebounded shot. Maryland would lead 1-0 at halftime.
Eight minutes into the second half, Donraadt cracked a shot from the upper right spot in the circle off a pass from sophomore Brooke DeBerdine to make it a two-goal lead for the Terps. Lepage added a third Terrapins goal three minutes later, off a score on a penalty corner. Freshman Riley Donnelly assisted on the goal.
Just over two minutes later, Donraadt struck again, this time off a pass in front from junior Lizzy Dessoye to make it a 4-0 lead. Clune added Maryland's fifth goal with a score off the rebound in the 57th minute. Duncan finalized the score at 6-0 with a goal off a pass into the circle from senior Linnea Gonzales.
Junior Noelle Frost and senior Sarah Holliday each played a half in goal, with Holliday notching a save.
Maryland outshot Temple 25-6 and had seven penalty corners to two.
The Terrapins will officially open the season with a trip to California next week. They will play at Pacific on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. ET, then at California at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 26. They will close the trip vs. UC Davis on Monday, Aug. 27 at 2 p.m.
