COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland volleyball team gave its fans and supporters their first look at the 2018 team, kicking off the season with the Red-White Scrimmage on Saturday evening.
Separated into two teams, the Terps scrimmaged in front of hundreds of fans, playing five sets to 15 points.
To start, the red team featured Nicole Alford, Abigail Bentz, Samantha Burgio, Nell Drummey, Jada Gardner, Rainelle Jones Chloe Prejean and Liz Twilley, while the white team included Katie Myers, Erika Pritchard, Allegra Rivas, Hailey Rubino Emma Schriner, Taylor Smith and Samantha Snyder.
"It was great to get the jitters out and play in front of a crowd," said head coach
Adam Hughes. "I thought we played pretty well as a whole. The serving was a little problematic but a lot of people had good performances.
Liz Twilley was really good for us tonight. I'm really excited to finish up preseason this week and finally play someone else next weekend."
Saturday's scrimmage was the first-time fans saw Maryland's newcomers in action, including freshmen
Rainelle Jones,
Allegra Rivas and
Emma Schriner, as well as sophomore transfers
Nicole Alford and
Hailey Rubino.
The Terps will officially kick off their 2018 campaign next Friday, August 24 at Wake Forest, as part of the Wake Forest/UNC Greensboro Tournament. Maryland will also take on UNC Greensboro and Air Force in the tournament.
After a second weekend on the road, Maryland will open its home slate on September 8-9 with the Maryland Invite. The first home match of the season will be September 8 vs. Colgate at 10:30 a.m. To purchase season tickets, click here.
