Terps Fall To Temple In Home Opener

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Despite recording defensive and special team touchdowns, Maryland (2-1) dropped a 35-14 decision to Temple (1-2) in the Terrapins' 2018 home opener Saturday afternoon at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium.

Redshirt freshman running back Anthony McFarland rushed for a career-high 107 yards on 11 carries, while junior wide receiver DJ Turner hauled in four receptions, one shy of his career best.

Temple's Anthony Russo threw for 228 yards, while Ryquell Armstead rushed for 118 yards to pace the Owls.

Senior Darnell Savage, Jr. had a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown for Maryland's lone score of the first half.

Senior Jesse Aniebonam blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown to pull the Terps to within 28-14, but Temple's Shaun Bradley returned an interception 78 yards for a touchdown with 4:11 left to seal the Owls victory.

Maryland begins Big Ten play at home against Minnesota next Saturday. The Terps beat the Gophers on the road last year, 31-24. The game is set for a noon kick on BTN.
