COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Defense led the way as the third-ranked Maryland field hockey team (10-0, 2-0 B1G) blanked No. 23 Ohio State, 1-0, Friday afternoon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
The Terrapins picked up their third shutout and sixth win over a ranked team with the victory.
At 10-0, Maryland is off to its best start since 2013. when it started 15-0.
"Our goaltending and our combination of
Sarah Holliday in goal and
Bodil Keus as our center back was exceptional," head coach
Missy Meharg said. "We didn't give up a penalty corner and allowed just three shots. Our defensive structure was excellent. Would we have liked to see more goals get popped in? Sure, but it's hard to score goals.
Katie Bam, our attack coach, does an excellent job. It feels weird when we don't score as much, but we just have to stay at it. I'm super pleased with our defense today."
Sophomore
Bodil Keus put Maryland on the board just 2:35 into the match when she sent in a shot off a penalty corner set up by junior tri-captain
Kelee Lepage and junior
Madison Maguire. Maryland led 1-0 through halftime.
The Terrapins held the Buckeyes (4-5, 0-2) to just three shots and didn't allow one in the second half. Maryland took 21 shots and had six penalty corners. The Terps did not allow a penalty corner for Ohio State.

Linnea Gonzales and junior
