COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior
Linnea Gonzales scored both of the Terps' goals to lead the third-ranked Maryland field hockey team (11-0, 3-0 B1G) past No. 8 Michigan, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

The Terrapins picked up their seventh win over a ranked team with the victory.
At 11-0, Maryland is off to its best start since 2013, when it started 15-0.

"Michigan is always so athletic, so well-coached," head coach
Missy Meharg said. "They have a lot of history and we've played them many times for championships. I couldn't be more proud of our team for the outcome. We have segments of our game growing, which is phenomenal.
Linnea Gonzales really showed her character. She played three or four positions on the field. She put both goals in and it's always nice to have a senior with that kind of conviction."

Gonzales, one of the Terps' tri-captains, opened the scoring when she banged in a shot off a penalty corner 10:33 into the match. Senior

Thirteen minutes later, the Wolverines (6-3, 2-1) tied the match with a score by Emma Way, who took a pass from Fay Keijer and scored from just in front of the goal. They stayed tied through halftime.

Gonzales gave the Terps the lead back for good when she cracked a backhanded shot that deflected into the net in the 45
th minute. Maryland led 2-1 with 25:46 to go.

Maryland took 17 shots to Michigan's 11 and had six penalty corners to three. Senior goalkeeper
Sarah Holliday made four saves.

Next, the Terps will take on No. 1 Connecticut (9-0, 2-0 Big East) Sunday at 1 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
