COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland's women's golf team continued to build upon its unprecedented success this fall, as the Terrapins earned their highest ranking in program history. The Terps are ranked No. 41 in the first Golfstat rankings of the season, released this week.
 
Last season, Maryland made history when it reached a top-50 ranking and qualified as a team for NCAA Regionals. The Terrapins finished just three strokes out of qualifying for the NCAA Championships as a team, something they used as motivation going into this year. They set out this fall to continue their climb on the women's golf national stage.
 
"It's exciting to see our program ranked 41st in the country in the first national ranking release of the season," head coach Diana Cantu said. "We have played four events, which add up to almost half of our entire regular season play. At the beginning of the year, I told the team that they are a top 40 team in the country. Standing 41st with one event to go in the fall, I think that we are in a good position to take advantage of the opportunity to compete again and keep climbing before the semester ends.
 
"We have a solid team from top to bottom and I am excited for them to continue to work hard, develop and mature as the season progresses. Having reached the best ranking in program history, I think the sky is the limit."
 
Maryland has finished in the top five of three of their four events so far this spring. The Terps have racked up 22 individual rounds at or under par and nine individual top 25 finishes in their events so far this year.
 
Four Terrapins – Virunpat Olankitkunchai (No. 98), Maria Vittoria Corbi (No. 169), Xiaolin Tian (No. 186) and Charlotte Lafourcade (No. 241) are ranked in the top 250 golfers in the country.
 
Coming up, the Terps will compete in The Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C. Oct. 25-27.
