ANN ARBOR, Mich. – No. 16 Michigan scored four unanswered goals before Maryland got on the board late as the Terrapins fell in their regular season finale 4-1 Sunday afternoon.
Despite the loss, the Terrapins have qualified for the program's first-ever Big Ten Tournament with a 5-5-1 conference record. Maryland has locked in the No. 6 seed in the B1G Tourney which sets up a rematch with third-seeded Michigan on Sunday, November 3. Further details will be announced when available.
The Wolverines gained the upper hand early in the game at U-M Soccer Stadium, taking a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute on a goal from Nicki Hernandez. Brooke Cilley padded the lead for the hosts in the 18th minute as Michigan carried a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
An own goal and Sarah Stratigakis strike less than two minutes apart made it 4-0 Michigan, before Maryland spoiled the shutout in the closing minutes.
Freshman Mia Isaac gained possession of a loose ball after a Sydney Staier free kick, and she launched a ball low to the left corner of the net for her first collegiate goal.
Maryland ends the regular season 9-7-3 overall, the team's most wins since 2013. Maryland's five Big Ten wins are also a school record, as the Terps will get set for next weekend's quarterfinal round.
