MADISON, Wis. -- The University of Maryland volleyball team fell to #4 Wisconsin on Wednesday night in three sets, 21-25, 14-25, 20-25.
Wisconsin was Maryland's highest-ranked opponent of the season so far, coming in at #4 in the AVCA Coaches' Poll and #3 in NCAA RPI. The Badgers improve to 15-4 overall and 11-0 in the conference, while the Terps drop to 12-11 overall and 4-7 in the conference. Maryland also played in its most hostile environment this season as 7,052 fans attended the matchup at the historic Wisconsin Field House in Madison.
Despite having very competitive first and third sets, the Terps weren't able to grasp a lead late in either set. Wisconsin was led by U.S. National Team member and back-to-back First Team All-American Dana Rettke, who paced the Badgers with 17 kills on .654 hitting.
Junior outside hitter
Erika Pritchard led the team with nine kills, her 10th consecutive match with 9+ kills, while redshirt sophomore middle blocker
Katie Myers added six and redshirt sophomore
Jada Gardner contributed five.
Samantha Snyder served all four of Maryland's aces on the night and leads the conference with 36.
Rainelle Jones, Gardner, and Myers all posted two blocks apiece, Sam Snyder paced the team with 13 assists, and
Allegra Rivas was strong defensively with a team-high 13 digs.
Next, Maryland travels to face Ohio State on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 PM in the Covelli Center. Maryland returns home Nov. 8 to face Minnesota.
