
#14 Michigan Defeats Maryland on Homecoming

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Javon Leake returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown, but Maryland fell to No. 14 Michigan, 38-7, at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Michigan's Giles Jackson returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown to get things started for Michigan, which used two first-half scoring runs by freshman Zach Charbonnet to build an early lead.
The Wolverines improve to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in Big Ten play. The Terps fall to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in league play.
Sophomore Anthony McFarland Jr. led the Terps with 60 rushing yards on 14 carries, while freshman Lance LeGendre scampered for 39 yards on seven carries.
Leake now boasts three career kickoff return touchdowns, tying Torrey Smith for the most in program history. With his 113 kickoff return yards today, he passes former teammate Ty Johnson to move into seventh place all-time in total kick return yards at Maryland. Leake's two kickoff return touchdowns this season is tied for the most in the FBS.
Isaiah Davis led the defensive effort for Maryland with nine tackles. Keandre Jones had six tackles, including one for a loss, and two pass breakups.
Maryland continues its season next week when it travels to Columbus, Ohio, to take on No. 3 Ohio State at noon. The game will be broadcast on FOX and the Maryland Sports Radio Network.
