Volleyball Falls to #25 Illinois

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland volleyball team lost to #25 Illinois Friday night in three sets, 23-25, 19-25, 19-25.
Maryland outhit and outblocked the Illini, hitting at a .218 clip and finishing the match with 11 team blocks. Illinois had the edge in kills (46), assists (45), and digs (48).
Junior outside hitter Erika Pritchard led the team with 12 kills, while Rainelle Jones added 7 and Katie Myers contributed 6.
Jones led the Terps with 6 blocks, while Katie Myers contributed 5 and Nicole Alford was in on four. Alford also led the team in assists with 24, and shared the team lead with Maddie Naumann with nine digs. Naumann made her first career start tonight at libero, filling in for sophomore Allegra Rivas.
Next, Maryland gets a day of rest before returning to the XFINITY Center Pavilion on Sunday to host Northwestern for Senior Day. The team will honor seniors Nell Drummey, Taylor Smith, and Samantha Snyder in a pregame ceremony before facing Northwestern for the second time this season. Maryland won the first meeting with the Wildcats this season in Evanston, 3-2.
