COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior running back Javon Leake, sophomore wide receiver Dontay Demus Jr. and senior offensive lineman Ellis McKennie earned All-Big Ten accolades Wednesday as the league announced its offensive honorees.
Leake (coaches & media), Demus (coaches) and McKennie (media) each received Honorable Mention All-Big Ten nods. Yesterday, it was announced that Leake was voted as the Big Ten Return Specialist of the Year and First Team All-Big Ten as a return specialist. It's the first All-Big Ten recognition for both Demus and McKennie.
Leake racked up 1,595 all-purpose yards, averaged 7.2 yards per carry and scored 10 touchdowns during his junior campaign. The running back ranks ninth in the Big Ten in touchdowns and eighth in rushing yards with 736.
Demus led the Terps in receptions (41), receiving yards (625), yards per catch (15.2) and receiving touchdowns (6). Demus, who has recorded a reception in 14 straight games, is the first Maryland sophomore with six receiving touchdowns in a season since DJ Moore in 2016.
McKennie, a four-time game captain, showed his versatility in 2019 by starting at four different positions along the Terps offensive line. The graduate student started six games at center and helped Maryland rush for over 2,000 yards. The Terps ranked third in the Big Ten by averaging 4.8 yards per carry as a team.
