COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Despite leading on three courts in singles play, the Maryland women's tennis team fell to Big Ten foe Wisconsin (9-2), 4-0, on Saturday.
The Terps were leading at second, third and fifth singles when the matches all ended unfinished due to Wisconsin clinching the victory.
Wisconsin took the lead after capturing the doubles point, ending Maryland's streak of winning consecutive doubles points after the Terps previously took the opening point of the match against Princeton and Rutgers.
The Badgers then kept the pressure on behind a trio of singles wins from its first, fourth and sixth singles players. Wisconsin's top singles player Sara Catellano, who is currently ranked 36th in the country, topped Maryland's Eva Alexandrova 6-4, 7-5.
Maryland will be back in action on Sunday, hosting conference foe Minnesota at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
