Kaila Charles of the No. 9-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (28-4) is a region finalists for 2019 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America honors. Charles is one of 52 of the top players in the country named a regional finalist.

Last week, Charles was named one of five finalists for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame's Cheryl Miller Award, an honor for the nation's top small forward.

Charles led the Terrapins to their fourth Big Ten regular season title in five years. For the second straight season, she led Maryland, and was No. 4 in the Big Ten, in scoring with 16.9 points per game.

Charles was one of just two players in the league unanimously voted to the All-Big Ten First Team and she earned four Big Ten weekly honors this season in helping the Terrapins to an overall record of 28-4 and 15-3 in league play.

She is also No. 8 in the Big Ten in field goal percentage (.489) and top 15 in the league in rebounds (211).

Last weekend, Charles averaged 26.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in the Terps' three-game run to the Big Ten championship game. In the final, she scored a career-high 36 points with nine boards and was voted to the All-Big Ten Tournament Team.

No. 3-seeded Maryland will host No. 14-seeded Radford (26-6) in the NCAA Women's Basketball First Round. The Terps and the Highlanders will tip off at 11 a.m. at the XFINITY Center.

This is Maryland's 27th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, ninth straight and 15th overall bid in
Brenda Frese's 17 years at Maryland. The Terrapins are 45-25 (.643) all-time in the NCAA Tournament and 33-13 (.717) under Frese. She's led the Terps to eight Sweet Sixteens, six Elite Eights, three Final Fours and the 2006 NCAA title.

The Terrapins are 15-0 in NCAA First Round games under Frese. Maryland has earned a top four seed in 12 of its 15 NCAA Tournaments under her.
