COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland gymnastics team enters the 2019 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships as the No. 28 ranked team in the nation as announced on Monday by the NCAA. This is Maryland's highest seed in program history.
The GymTerps will compete in the second round of the Athens regional hosted by the University of Georgia on Friday, April 5. Maryland will compete in the second session, which begins at 7 p.m. The first session will begin at 2 p.m.
This is Maryland's ninth NCAA regional appearance under head coach Brett Nelligan. The Terrapins finished the regular season ranked No. 28 in the nation, their highest ranking entering Regionals since 2013. This is the team's third regional selection since joining the Big Ten.
"I'm just so happy and proud of this team," said head coach Brett Nelligan. "They've worked extremely hard and this has been a difficult and challenging season, so for them to push through and achieve this goal is incredible. I'm happy we get to enjoy this moment today and look forward to a great NCAA competition."
All regionals will be conducted April 4-6. The top 16-teams are seeded nationally, based on RQS, and placed into the bracket. Teams 17-36 are placed geographically at one of the four regional sites. Seeding determined at the time of regional selections will be maintained throughout championships.
