COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo -- Redshirt sophomore Katie Myers was one of 12-players in the country selected to the U.S. Collegiate National Team and will tour with the team in Japan this May, USA Volleyball announced on Monday.
"Being able to represent the United States on a national stage means the world to me," said Myers. "Even just representing Maryland and my family. I can't even begin to put into words how excited I am for this opportunity. I could never imagine I'd be at this point without my family, teammates, coaches and the entire Maryland family."
Myers is the first ever Terrapin volleyball player to make the Collegiate National Team and one of just 12-players selected in the country that will represent America on the Japan tour this May. There are three middles on the roster, with Myers joining Heather Gneiting (Brigham Young University, Pleasant Grove, Utah) and Taylor Morgan (University of Minnesota, Blaine, Minnesota).
The squad will tour May 19-30 in Japan where it will have a series of training sessions and matches. The tour is unique in that the U.S. will play against Nippon Sport Science University, one of the best collegiate volleyball teams in Japan, as well as Japan's Women's 20 and World University Games teams. Below is the tentative match schedule:
A team captain on the 2018 team, Myers, a rising redshirt sophomore led Maryland in 2018 with 53 aces and 122 blocks while ranking third on team with 210 kills. Myers ranked first in the Big Ten and 14th in the country with her 53 aces, which were also the most by a Terp since 2003. The Westerville, Ohio native was a integral piece in leading Maryland to their most ever Big Ten wins and an 18-14 record. After being granted a sixth year before the 2018 season, Myers still has three years of eligibility left as a Terp.
