COLLEGE PARK, Md. – For the first time since 2011, the University of Maryland football team will host its annual Red-White Spring Game on Maryland Day. Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium will be the place to be on Saturday, April 27 as the Spring Game will kick off an action-packed day which also features the nationally-ranked men's and women's lacrosse teams hosting rival Johns Hopkins.
The Spring Game will get underway at noon, while the women's lacrosse game will start at 4:30 p.m. and the men's lacrosse game will be played under the lights with a 7:30 p.m. opening face-off. Both the men's and women's lacrosse teams are currently ranked in the Top 10 nationally.
"Maryland Day is always one of the most vibrant days on campus," said Maryland Athletic Director Damon Evans. "To couple that with a full day of athletic competition inside Maryland Stadium is extremely exciting. We're thrilled to give our community visiting campus three exciting opportunities to see our tremendous student-athletes."Â
Led by first-year Head Coach Michael Locksley, the football team will begin spring practice on March 26. Maryland will hold 15 practices, culminating with the Spring Game. The Terps return 77.3 percent of their total offense from last season, including 1,000-yard running back Anthony McFarland Jr. On the defensive side of the ball, Maryland welcomes back five starters, including three from a secondary that helped the Terps rank second in the Big Ten with 18 interceptions a year ago.Â
Women's lacrosse Head Coach Cathy Reese has the Terps out to a 5-0 start early in the season leading into Big Ten play, where Maryland has never lost a regular season game, standing at 22-0 all-time. The Terps are looking to make their NCAA-leading 30th straight NCAA Tournament and 11th straight Final Four.Â
Men's lacrosse Head Coach John Tillman has guided the Terps to a 5-1 start as the team continues its quest for their fifth straight Big Ten Regular Season title and NCAA-best 17th straight NCAA Tournament berth. Â
Admission to the Red-White Spring Game and parking throughout most of campus is free of charge in conjunction with Maryland Day. The stadium will be cleared following the Spring Game and autograph session prior to the lacrosse games. Tickets to the women's lacrosse game start at $5 and men's lacrosse at $10.Â
The Spring Game will be streamed live on BTN2Go at noon and can also be seen on tape delay on BTN immediately following the Maryland-Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse game.Â
