Terps Mourn Passing of All-American Walter White

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The Maryland Football family is incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of former All-American tight end Walter White.

In two seasons as a Terp (1973-74), White recorded 59 catches for 930 yards and eight touchdowns while also rushing for 138 yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns. He was a two-time letterman and an honorable mention All-American in 1974 when he tallied 624 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns. White still holds the school record for longest touchdown catch in a bowl game (68 yards, vs. Georgia in the 1973 Peach Bowl).

At Maryland, White majored in physical education and finished his collegiate career as the third leading receiver in school history.

Born in Charlottesville, Virginia on July 19, 1951, White was selected in the third round of the 1975 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 1975 and totaled 163 catches for 2,396 yards and 16 touchdowns before retiring from the NFL following the 1979 season.

After his playing career concluded, White became a founding member of the Kansas City Ambassadors charitable group.

White was 67 years old. He is survived by his wife of close to 40 years, Jeri, and three children, Jason, Adam and Whitney.
