Steele Earns B1G Offensive Player of the Week Honors

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Senior Caroline Steele earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors, the Big Ten announced Tuesday.
Steele was phenomenal in Maryland's 17-13 win at No. 5 Northwestern last Thursday night, leading the No. 2 Terps with five goals and six points, as well as picking up a season-best two groundballs. The senior scored numerous goals at crucial times, including three straight with the game tied in the second half at 8-8, 9-9 and 10-10. After the game was moved indoors with the score tied at 12, Steele had Maryland's second goal indoors to put Maryland up 14-12, their biggest lead of the night to that point.
On the game, Steele was 2-for-3 on free position and now leads the conference and is ninth in the country with a .667 free position percentage. In just 11 games this season, Steele has 32 goals, five assists for 37 points. The senior had the game winner in double overtime against No. 3 North Carolina and has 13 points in Maryland's last three games. The Northwestern game was the second time this year Steele had five goals.
This is the second time Steele has won this award with the first coming on May 2, 2017. Maryland has now won nine Big Ten weekly honors this season with senior Megan Taylor winning six Defensive Player of the Week awards and junior Kali Hartshorn winning two Offensive Player of the Week honors.
