Five Terps Selected in WPLL Draft

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's lacrosse team had a nation-best five players selected in the 2019 Women's Professional Lacrosse League Collegiate Draft on Thursday night.
Erica Evans and Jen Giles were selected fifth and sixth overall by the Pride, Julia Braig was picked 18th overall by the Command, Megan Taylor was the 21st pick by the Fight and Steele was selected 25th overall, joining Evans and Giles on the Pride.
Evans and Giles were the first and second midfielders selected in the draft, Taylor was the only goalkeeper selected and Braig was the second defender off the board.
The WPLL is comprised of five teams, the WPLL Brave, WPLL Command, WPLL Fight, WPLL Fire and the WPLL Pride, and will play over five dates along the east coast this summer.
With the selections of Evans, Giles, Braig, Taylor and Steele, there are now 20 Terps in the WPLL, the most in the country. Northwestern and North Carolina have the next most with 12 apiece.
Taylor will join the WPLL Fight, which have the most Terps of any team with seven. The goalie will join former teammates Taylor Cummings ('16), Alice Mercer ('16), Zoe Stukenberg ('17) as well as Shanna Brady ('15), Kelly McPartland ('15) and Casey Pepperman ('15).
The WPLL Pride now have six Terps on the roster, with Evans, Giles and Steele joining former teammates Nadine Hadnagy ('17) and Megan Whittle ('18) as well as Alex Aust ('13).
Braig will join 2015 graduate Megan Douty and 2018 graduate Taylor Hensh on the 2018 Championship winning WPLL Command.
Dana Dobbie ('07), Brooke Griffin ('15) and Kathy Rudkin ('18) are all on the WPLL Pride while Katie Haus is on the WPLL Fire.
The 2019 WPLL slate will begin on June 2 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
