The University of Maryland is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Graphic Designer. The position will work as a member of the Intercollegiate Athletics external operations staff, and be under the direct supervision of the Associate Athletics Director for Digital Media & Creative Services. The Graphic Designer will serve as our internal design hub and will be responsible for creating an inspirational visual identity for Maryland Athletics with the primary purpose of maximizing brand engagement and enhancing revenue generation.
This role will manage a high volume of graphic design work with a primary focus on supporting the creative needs across all areas of our external team, including development, marketing, ticketing, media relations, broadcasting & production and sponsorship. The graphic designer will collaborate with other external staff members to design creative assets and content for our digital platforms, including social media, email, website and mobile; assists with the creative vision for our department-wide branding efforts and coordinates design concept art for brand campaigns; assists with creative support and design materials for fundraising campaigns and capital projects; assists with photo shoots, photo selection, photo archiving and photo management; coordinates and implements design best practice tools, templates and technologies to drive effectiveness and efficiency across the organization; assists with recruiting graphic requests and special projects including the enhancement of environmental mediums within our athletic facilities; coordinates high level presentation design materials in support of revenue generation initiatives and organizational communication; recruits and oversees graphic design interns; performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree is required. Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in graphic design with a demonstrated understanding of design principles. Design portfolio demonstrating high level strategic design sensibilities and strong illustrative skills which translate to supporting our business verticals.
Expert-level proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and After Effects) is required. Strong photography retouching skills (Photoshop or Lightroom) and copywriting skills.
Ability to produce a high volume of graphics on deadline while maintaining a high quality of work. Demonstrated experience designing for social media and email platforms, including an understanding of both content marketing and visual storytelling. Ability to work cross-functionally to achieve department goals and within the defined constraints of our organizational brand standards. Ability to manage time independently and juggle multiple tasks and projects for different clients simultaneously.
Must be able to work nights, weekends, and non-traditional hours.
Experience at the NCAA Division I or professional sports level is preferred. Proficiency in creating motion graphics is also preferred.
