Director of Football Creative Design

The University of Maryland is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Football Creative Design. The position will work as a member of the Maryland Football staff, and be under the direct supervision of the Director of Recruiting Operations with a dotted line to the Sr. Director of Social Media & Branding. The Director will coordinate graphic design and social media content creation for the football program with the primary purpose of enhancing program visibility and student-athlete recruitment.
This role will manage a high volume of graphic design work with a primary focus on supporting the creative recruiting needs of the Maryland Football head coach and staff. The Director assists with developing and implementing a football content calendar and collaborates with other external staff members to execute creative assets and content for our football digital platforms; develops and executes a personalized recruiting content journey that aides in the cultivation of prospective student-athletes to join the Maryland Football program; coordinates design materials, presentations and creative support for in-home recruiting visits and other aspects of the football program's internal operations; develops direct mail collateral pieces and football camp marketing materials; serves as the football program's internal day-to-day photographer covering away game trips, practices, workouts, team operations and community service initiatives; assists with student-athlete photo shoots, photo selection, photo archiving and photo management; assists with special projects including the enhancement of environmental mediums within our football facilities; recruits and oversees graphic design interns within the football program; serves as a liaison for the football program with other areas of the athletic department and the University; ensures compliance with NCAA, Big Ten, and University policies and procedures; performs other duties as they relate to daily football operations.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience in graphic design with a demonstrated understanding of design principles is required. Design portfolio demonstrating high level strategic design sensibilities and strong illustrative skills which translates to inspirational digital content and aids in student-athlete recruitment. Expert-level proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and After Effects) is required. Strong photography retouching skills (Photoshop or Lightroom) and copywriting skills. Ability to produce high volumes of graphics on deadline while maintaining a high quality of work. Demonstrated experience designing for social media platforms, including an understanding of both content marketing and visual storytelling. Ability to work cross-functionally to achieve football program goals and within the defined constraints of our organizational brand standards. Ability to manage time independently and juggle multiple tasks and projects for different clients simultaneously. Present on field and in locker room during home and away games. Must be able to work nights, weekends, holidays, and non-traditional hours.
Experience at the NCAA Division I or professional sports level is preferred. Proficiency in creating motion graphics is also preferred.
