COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland men's soccer coach Sasho Cirovski announced the addition of five student-athletes to the 2019 roster Thursday afternoon.
Luke Brown, Marques Antoine, Louis Spicer, Niklas Neumann and Tej Munshi will all join the Terps for the 2019 season. Information on each new student athlete can be found below.
Luke Brown | Forward | Cambridgeshire, England | Hofstra
Before Maryland: Starred for three seasons at Hofstra, scoring 19 goals…2018 All-Colonial Athletic Association Third Team…played in 15 matches with 11 starts…scored six goals and added three assists….named to the All-CAA Championship Team…2017 Third-Team All-CAA selection…scored three goals and notched three assists…2016 All-CAA First Team and CAA All-Rookie Team selection…scored eight goals…prior to Hofstra played five years of soccer at Ely College in England…played for Histon FC.
Sasho on Brown: "Luke is a dynamic attacking player who is capable of creating and finishing. He is a proven high-level college player that will fit in seamlessly with our style of play. He is a skillful player but also plays with a lot of grit."
Marques Antoine | Defender | Dollard-Des-Ormeaux, Quebec | Montreal Impact Academy
Before Maryland: Starred with the Montreal Impact Academy…played 14 matches with the Impact U-17/U-18 squad in the 2016-2017 season…made 30 career appearances in the USSDA…scored a pair of goals from his center back spot during his time in the USSDA…named to SoccerWire.com's USSDA Northeast Division Best 11 in 2014…included in the Canadian Youth National Team set up starting at age 15 and has featured at U-15 and U-17 Canadian National Team camps.
Sashp on Marques: "Marques is an exceptional central defender who is very comfortable playing out of the back but is known for his tenacity in defending. He can play both central roles, is very good in the air and has always been the leader of his teams."
Louis Spicer | Forward | Cambridgeshire, England | Millfield School
Before Maryland: Played at the Millfield School in Somerset, England…invited to join the Cambridge United Academy at age nine…won multiple trophies playing for Wellingborough Town…played in the Norwich City and Leicester City academies…featured for the Kettering U-18s.
Sasho on Louis: "Louis is a very technical and athletic winger. He is a lefty that can play on either side. A terrific passer and crosser, he is capable of unbalancing teams with his dribbling and creativity."
Niklas Neumann | Goalkeeper | Kassel, Germany | KSV Hessen Kassel
Before Maryland: Comes to Maryland after a spell with KSV Hessen Kassel in Germany…spent multiple years in the youth set up at 1. FC Kaiserslautern, playing for their U-19 and U-17 squads…finished second in the junior Bundesliga U-19…practiced with Kaiserslauten's Bundesliga as a youth player…made his Regionaliga debut as a youth player.
Sasho on Neumann: Niklas is an outstanding young goalkeeper. He has had some very good experiences in the German Oberilga at both the youth and senior levels. He has a commanding presence in goal, is very good at reading the game, organizing, and also capable in distribution."
Tej Munshi | Forward | Suwanee, Ga. | Concorde Fire SC
Before Maryland: Played for Concorde Fire SC and Woodward Academy…all-time leading scorer at Woodward Academy with over 50 goals in his career…DiVarsity 4A Player of the Year…selected to represent the Olympic Development Program Regional Team in 2018.
Sasho on Munshi: "Tej is a very athletic and skillful attacking player. Known as a goal scorer, he is also very much a provider with his ability to get end line and find that finishing pass. As he adjusts to the physical nature of the college game, he will flourish."
