Hughes Announces 2019 Schedule

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Head coach Adam Hughes and the Maryland volleyball team released its 2019 schedule on Tuesday.

After winning a program best nine Big Ten games in his first season at the helm, Hughes will lead the Terrapins through a challenging 32-game slate against some of the top competition in the country. This includes 12 matches against teams who were selected to the 2018 NCAA Tournament and 10 matches against teams who finished the season in the AVCA Top 25.

"I'm really excited to announce this year's schedule," said head coach Adam Hughes. "It's by far the toughest all around schedule we've put together since the start of my time here at Maryland. There is a growing excitement around the program and I feel like my staff and I put together the best possible schedule that prepares our team for Big Ten play as well as a postseason opportunity. This group had a fantastic spring training block and we're fortunate enough to have three players that competed overseas this summer which has helped carry us over to where we are now. As a group, we are hungry to achieve new heights this year and continue the growth of our program."

The schedule features 14 home matches, which includes the annual Maryland Invite on September 13-14, where Maryland will welcome Arkansas, Princeton and George Mason to College Park. In Big Ten play, the Terps will host 2018 Final Four teams Illinois and Nebraska as well as NCAA Tournament teams Penn State, Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin.

NON-CONFERENCE
Maryland will open the season on Saturday, August 31 with a pair of games at NC State against Austin Peay and Kansas State. The Terps will then play their first home match of 2019 against 2018 NCAA Tournament Team Howard on Monday, September 2 at 6:00 p.m.

The following week, the Terps will head to the home state of Jada Gardner, Allegra Rivas and Maddie Naumann for the UTSA Classic in San Antonio. Maryland will face UTRGV, Houston and the host, UTSA.

The 2019 Maryland Invite will feature Maryland, Arkansas, Princeton and George Mason. The Terps will take on Arkansas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13 before playing George Mason and Princeton the following day.

BIG TEN
For the second year in a row, Maryland will play three of their first four conference games at home, beginning with Ohio State on Wednesday, September 25. The Terps swept the Buckeyes in 2018, including a classic five-set win in College Park.

A few days later the Terps will head to Michigan State for a Saturday night match on September 28. Maryland will host Michigan, who the Terps memorably beat at their place last year for the first ranked win on the road in program history, on Friday, October 4 and face the Spartans for the second time in two weeks a night later on Saturday, October 5.

Maryland will travel to Penn State and Rutgers on October 11-12. The following week will feature a pair of home matches as Indiana will come to College Park on Wednesday, October 16 and 2018 Final Four squad Nebraska will come on Saturday, October 19.

The Terps will wrap up the first half of Big Ten play with a road contest at Northwestern on Wednesday, October 23 before hosting Penn State on Saturday, October 26. The following week will feature a midweek road match at Wisconsin on Wednesday, October 30 and a Saturday night match at Ohio State on November 2.

Two NCAA Tournament teams, Minnesota and Wisconsin will come to College Park on consecutive nights on November 8-9. The following week (November 15-16), Maryland will hit the road for matches at Indiana and Purdue.
