COLLEGE PARK, Md. – With the 2019 fall semester in full swing, the University of Maryland Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted a Welcome Back BBQ for all student-athletes Monday night at the Maryland Softball Stadium.
Students from all 20 athletic teams to kick off the 2019-2020 athletic season. University president Dr. Wallace Loh, Athletic Director Damon Evans addressed student-athletes and Maryland Athletics staff about the importance of athletics and academics.
"When I take a look across this crowd and I see the 'One Maryland' shirt it signifies who we are, what we stand for, and what we're about," Evans said. "I said this to several of the teams thus far, 'One Maryland' simply means that all of us together, coming together as one, being unified, can accomplish so much more than we can individually. There are 500 plus student-athletes out here tonight, 20 different sports programs represented by 17 different coaches, a support staff of 250 people, countless faculty, staff and alums, but what makes us great is when we all come together."
Good luck to all the student-athletes on their academic and athletic endeavors for the 2019-20 school year.
