COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's soccer program kicked off their 2019 season Tuesday morning with the team's first practice session of the preseason.
The Terps returned to campus this week, enjoying a team dinner Monday evening before taking the field this morning for their first training session.
"It's great to be out here on a beautiful pitch, with great energy and focus from our team to start off the preseason," said head coach Ray Leone, who enters his fourth season at the helm at Maryland in 2019. "We've been focused on building on what we did in the spring: maintaining possession with a purpose and moving the ball quicker. They've been playing hard with great effort, and I'm excited to see that continue."
The Terrapins return 21 letterwinners from last season's team, while welcoming six freshmen to the fold for the upcoming year. The squad will continue training throughout the week before taking Ludwig Field for their first preseason exhibition against Delaware at 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 11.
UMD will open the regular season on Thursday, August 22 when the Terps host Georgia Southern. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 pm.
