COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior center back Malikae Dayes was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week in an announcement made by the conference offices Tuesday. This is the first career conference weekly award selection for Dayes, and the second of the season for the Terrapins after Erin Seppi garnered Goalkeeper of the Week honors last Tuesday.Â
Dayes is the first Terrapin to garner B1G Defensive Player of the Week honors in school history. Â
Dayes played all 200 minutes for the Terps last week, helping the Terps to a 1-1 tie with Temple and a 3-0 victory over Princeton. The Brampton, Ontario native played a lead role in the defensive unit that allowed just one goal and five shots on target in 200 minutes, including shutout over a Princeton team that was receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25.
Dayes and the rest of the Maryland team return to action this weekend when the Terps host Wisconsin at Ludwig Field on Friday, September 20 at 4:00 pm.
