Seppi Saves 13 as Terps Fall in B1G Opener

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Wisconsin (5-2-1) scored three goals to secure a win over Maryland (4-3-2) in both team's Big Ten opener Friday afternoon.

Maryland goalie Erin Seppi had a career day in the net, making a career-high 13 saves. She was under pressure early in the game at Ludwig Field, stopping two Wisconsin shots in the opening 10 minutes of play.

The Badgers had a close opportunity for the first goal in the 21st minute, but Julia New charged into the box to block a close shot at the right post. The Badgers would eventually break through in the 25th minute of play, with their first goal coming from Payton Wesley.

Trailing 1-0 at the half, UMD looked to get on the board but could not stop another Wisconsin goal. The Badgers got another one in the opening five minutes of the second half from Lauren Rice. The Badgers quickly increased their lead to three when Dani Rhodes scored in the 51st minute.

Maryland's best chance for a goal came on an Alexis Hogarth header on goal late in the second half off a corner kick, but the Wisconsin goalie made the save.

The Terps are back in action this Sunday, September 22 at Ludwig Field to take on the Minnesota Gophers at 2:00 p.m.
