SAN ANTONIO -- Junior outside hitter
Erika Pritchard recorded her fourth consecutive double-double (11 kills, 15 digs) and freshman outside hitter
Rebekah Rath tallied a season and career-high kills (13) but Maryland was dealt its first loss of the season by the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley, in five sets.
In the Terps' third consecutive five-set match (Kansas State, Howard), Maryland couldn't come away victorious despite strong individual efforts. Five players recorded 7+ kills and the Terps set their second-most blocks in a game this season with 9.5, but UTRGV wore out the Terps, rallying back in the fourth set and forcing the pivotal fifth which they won 15-12.
The Terps were dominant in the first set, winning 25-17 behind
Rainelle Jones' four kills and a team hitting percentage of over .500 (.519). The Vaqueros second-set win was equally as decisive as they took down Maryland 25-18 to even up the match. Maryland again took control of the third set, winning 25-17, before dropping the last two sets to the defending WAC champions.
Maryland will play two more matches in the UTSA Classic tomorrow, facing the University of Houston at 1:30 p.m. ET and playing the University of Texas, San Antonio at 8:30 p.m. ET.
