COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland sophomore quarterbackÂ
Taulia Tagovailoa has been selected as the Maxwell Award Player of the Week, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Tuesday. The honor is Tagovailoa's fourth of the week after his stellar performance in Maryland's thrilling 45-44 overtime win over Minnesota on Friday night.Â
On Monday, Tagovailoa was chosen as the Big Ten's Co-Offensive Player of the Week. He was also named to the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award's Great 8 list and was one of eight quarterbacks selected as a Manning Award "Star of the Week."Â
Tagovailoa completed 26-of-35 passes for 394 yards and accounted for five touchdowns in Maryland's win over the Gophers. A native of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Tagovailoa became just the third Big Ten player in the last 20 seasons to notch 350 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in a single game.
Tagovailoa's 394 passing yards were the 10th most in a single-game in school history and the most since Danny O'Brien passed for 417 yards against N.C. State in 2010. The sophomore added 59 rushing yards, including a 39-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
Â
Tagovailoa and the Terps return to action on Saturday at Penn State. The game is set to kick at 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on Big Ten Network and the Maryland Sports Radio Network. Â
