
Terps Continue Exceptional Success in the Classroom

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland student-athletes continue to thrive in the classroom. The Fall 2019 semester saw Terrapin student-athletes post a departmental cumulative grade point average of a 3.039. It marked the seventh consecutive semester that saw the overall cumulative GPA above a 3.0.
"The continued success in the classroom among our student-athletes is a tremendous point of pride for me and our entire athletic department," said Athletic Director Damon Evans. "Our student-athletes continue to excel in their academic pursuits in addition to their successes in athletic competition. The support they receive from the staff in the Gossett Center provides them the resources they need to progress toward, and ultimately meet their goal of graduating from the University of Maryland. To continue to see us setting records in the classroom fills me with such pride."

Twenty student-athletes earned their undergraduate degrees following the fall semester.
Fourteen student-athletes posted perfect 4.0 grade point averages in the fall semester.
Nine programs posted semester GPAs of more than 3.0 led by the women's lacrosse team. Joining them with a 3.0 GPA or higher for the semester were: women's cross country, field hockey, women's golf, men's lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, women's tennis, and women's track & field.
n terms of overall cumulative grade point averages, the women's cross country program recorded the highest GPA. Seven other teams have higher than a 3.0 cumulative GPA: field hockey, women's golf, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, women's tennis, and women's track & field.
Individually, 274 student-athletes were named to the academic honor roll, posting a 3.0-grade point average or higher. The men's lacrosse team had a department-high 36 honor roll members followed by women's lacrosse with 35. The football team and women's track & field program each had 28 individuals earn honor roll accolades.
The department had 103 student-athletes earn Dean's List recognition. Women's lacrosse (16), women's track & field (15) and men's lacrosse (14) led the way in terms of most team members collecting this honor.
