Santiago Qualifies for Finals, Seeded Second at Big Ten Championships

GENEVA, Ohio — Junior Xahria Santiago qualified for the 400m finals with the second-fastest time and a blazing season-best time of 54.41 on day one of the Big Ten Championships Friday at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Santiago will compete for the top spot Saturday at 1:40 p.m.
What You Need To Know- Christine Laurie set a personal best in the mile, finishing in 4:54.17. Laurie holds her place as the fastest mile runner for the Terps this season, and is her second personal-best finish in a race this season.
- Nadia Hackett set the No. 6 all-time 60m hurdle finish (8.51), as she attacked the hurdles and leaned across the finish line.
Keep Up With The Terps
- Destiny Ward ran strong from the gun and came around the corner, to the finish line in 24.82 in the 200m prelims. Ward holds her place as the quickest 200m Terp this season.
- Chloe Royce opened the day with a season best in the 60H, crossing the line in 8.99. Royce continued competition in the pentathlon with high jump (1.64m), long jump (5.29m), the 800m and shot put. Royce totaled 3,684 points in the event, setting a new personal-best and No. 8 all-time score.
- Junior Cheyenne Jones blazed across the 400m finish line with a season-best 55.53.
- The dynamic sprinting duo of Bria Mack (7.61) and Jaida Smith (7.66) sped across the line in the 60m dash.
- Mackenzie Morgan paced her way to a 2:10.73 finish in the 800m dash preliminary round.
- Imani Gray set the tone in the 200m, dashing across the line in 25.19.
- Brittany Lang (9:59.18) and Anna Coffin (9:59.21) stayed close in the 3000m, pushing each other until the finish. Coffin's time of 9:59.21 is her third consecutive personal-best finish in the race.
- Samantha Facius, Venida Fagan, Morgan and Laurie pieced together a season-best distance medley relay (11:56.87) to finish out the day strong.

- Alice Barnsdale threw one centimeter shy of her lifetime best in the weight throw (18.01m), and had a series of strong marks throughout the day.
- Kamryn Henderson stepped in the ring and took home a personal-best weight throw mark of 17.50m.
- Jaida Smith approached the board in the long jump with a 5.41m mark.
