COLLEGE PARK, Md -- Maryland women's tennis head coach Katie Dougherty announced the addition of Minorka Miranda to the Terps for the Fall 2020 season. Miranda, a San Juan, Puerto Rico native, will join the Terps from Delray Beach, Fla.
Miranda comes to Maryland with two International Tennis Federation (ITF) doubles titles under her belt, and was recently a singles finalist at the Grade 4 ITF tournament in Queretaro, Mexico. In January of this year, she made the sem-finals in doubles and Sweet 16 in singles at the prestigious ITF Grade 1 Coffee Bowl event in San Jose, Costa Rica.
"Minorka personifies everything we look for in future Terps", Dougherty said. "She is a first rate young lady from a great family, still has plenty of room for growth in her game, and is extremely motivated on and off the court. We're delighted that she has chosen to become a Terp, and we're looking forward to working with her next fall".
Miranda ranked as high as 323 in the ITF junior world rankings, and as high as 1459 in the women's world rankings.
"The combination of high level tennis and academics made Maryland the perfect choice for me", Miranda said. "I couldn't be more excited to be a Terp next year!".
