
Olankitkunchai Set for US Amateur Championships

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Virunpat Olankitkunchai of the Maryland women's golf team will compete in the U.S. Amateur Championships next week at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md.
Olankitkunchai will tee off at 7 a.m. Monday and 11 a.m. Tuesday in the first two rounds of stroke play. Qualifiers advance to Wednesday's match play. For more on the field, click here.
Olankitkunchai averaged a 72.67 this season, which broke her own program record of 72.81 set last year. She competed in all eight events for the Terrapins in the fall and early spring, earning two top 10 finishes and five in the top 25. She notched 11 rounds at or under par.
Olankitkunchai was named to the All-Big Ten First Team last year. She is the third Terrapin to earn All-Big Ten honors under head coach Diana Cantu and second to earn multiple honors.
The Terrapins ended the season ranked No. 47 nationally. They won their final tournament of the season, the Hurricane Invitational in March. The Terps went seven strokes under par with a 281 to tie their season low. They finished ahead of six top 50 teams.
