How did you first get involved with the Terrapin Club?
Gary & Linda: We viewed the Terrapin Club as a wonderful opportunity to stay connected to Maryland athletics. We joined shortly after our graduation and have remained members for 40 years.
What motivates you to give so generously?
Gary & Linda: Maryland provided both of us an exceptional education, which paved the way to a successful life. We are honored to be able to "give back" to the university, so that others may also have that educational opportunity. Great athletics bring increased interest in our university, and exceptionally qualified students follow! That's a win-win!
Do you have an anecdote about Maryland Athletics or the Terrapin Club that you would share?
Linda: I was a member of the Maryland Poms for 2 years and that was a key part of my experience at College Park. A favorite memory is marching with the band at the 1973 Peach Bowl in Atlanta. A photographer from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution took my photo on the field that day. A copy of that photo has remained in our family all of this time, and is now Gary's cell phone screensaver!
Who is on your Mount Rushmore of Maryland Athletics
Gary & Linda: Len Bias, Juan Dixon, Randy White and John Lucas
What do you hope Maryland Athletics will achieve this year?
Gary & Linda: Looking for Final Four in men's and women's basketball this year!
If you could go back in time and witness one Terps game live (in any sport), what would it be and why?
Gary & Linda: If we could go back and witness any game, it would be the 1984 ACC Tournament Final. We had a baby in February, and were not able to attend the tournament that year. We would love to have seen Len Bias bring the trophy home to Maryland!
What do you want to see Maryland Athletics achieve moving forward?
Gary & Linda: Going forward, we would like to see: A high percentage of senior athletes graduate; Success in the Big10 in both men and women's sports; Continued push for National titles!
What makes Maryland Athletics so special?
Gary & Linda: Maryland Athletics are special because of its high level of success across the board in many sports, both men's and women's, not just football and basketball. The University of Maryland provides superior academics to all of its students including the athletes! We have a proud heritage and hope for the future!
