EAST LANSING, MI – Goals from Brayan Padilla, Joshua Bolma, and Ben Bender, lifted No. 7 Maryland (11-2-1, 4-1-1 Big Ten) to a 3-1 victory Michigan State on Friday night.

Padilla gave the Terps a quick 1-0 lead when his shot in the second minute caught the Spartans keeper off of his line. Maryland continued to control possession and pace for much of the first half until midfielder Malcolm Johnston was carted off with an injury. Bolma bookended the first half with a goal of his own after fellow freshman Caden Stafford found him breaking behind the defense. The script was flipped in the second half as the Spartans (6-7-2, 2-3-2) answered with a goal of their own in the 47th minute, and started to put consistent pressure on the Terps defense. Goalie Niklas Neumann and the Maryland defense managed to hold strong with Bender adding another goal in the 66th minute, officially putting the game out of reach.

Notable Numbers

Bender scored his third goal in four games and adds to his team-lead in goals with five.
Padilla's goal was his second of the year, and first since his highlight real goal against Virginia at Audi Field.
Bolma's goal brings his season total to four, which is good for second on the team.
Maryland held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Padilla led the team in total shots with four.
Hunter George registering three total shots with two of them coming on goal.
Alex Nitzl, Chris Rindov, William Kulvik, Nick Richardson, and Brett St. Martin all played the entire 90-minute affair.

Neumann In Net

After a quiet first half, Neumann ended up making three key saves, keeping the Terps in front.
Neumann and the Maryland defense had their streak of 266 minutes of play without a goal snapped in the 47th minute.

Hall of Famers

Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski will be inducted into the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2021.
Former star midfielder Maurice Edu will also be inducted in this year's class.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on November 19, 2021, at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center.
