Dodd Trophy To Celebrate Friedgen’s 20th Anniversary of Winning Award Saturday

ATLANTA, GA – The Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl, Inc. will celebrate legendary coach Ralph Friedgen's 20th anniversary of winning the national coaching award on Oct. 30 at Maryland Stadium during the Terrapins' home football game against Indiana.
The Dodd Trophy presented by PNC is the most coveted Coach of the Year Award in college football and celebrates the head coach of a team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also representing programs with the highest ideals of scholarship, leadership and integrity on and off the field – the three pillars of legendary coach Bobby Dodd's philosophy.
Coach Friedgen was named the 2001 recipient of The Dodd Trophy after leading Maryland to its first ACC title in 16 years and the program's first winning season in six years. During his tenure as head coach of Maryland from 2001-2010, Coach Friedgen led the Terrapins to an impressive overall record of 75-50, including seven bowl appearances. Friedgen ranks third in school history in career victories, fourth in winning percentage and led the Terrapins to a school-record five bowl victories, including the 2002 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl win over Tennessee.

Since 2014, officials from the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Peach Bowl, Inc. have celebrated the major anniversaries of previous winners of The Dodd Trophy by honoring them during a game on their campus. Coaches such as Vince Dooley (Georgia), Bobby Bowden (Florida State), Bobby Ross (Georgia Tech), Dick Sheridan (NC State), George Welsh (Virginia) and Dick MacPherson (Syracuse) were all recognized at their respective schools.
A panel consisting of all previous winners, national media, a member of the Dodd family and a College Football Hall of Fame member will identify the final list of potential Dodd Trophy recipients at the conclusion of the 2021 season. The winner of the 2021 Dodd Trophy will be announced in Atlanta during the week of this year's Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
