
Five Terps Qualify for ITA Super Regionals

ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Maryland women's tennis team had a stellar weekend at the North Atlantic Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships this weekend. Five Terps will move on to the super regional Championships later this month in Charlottesville, Virginia, October 22-25.
Freshman Francesca Feodorov started off day one strong for Maryland, taking down Jackie Nannery of George Mason, 6-2, 6-1. Feodorov capped off the day adding another victory to her belt, defeating Chloe Bendetti of Georgetown 6-0, 6-3 to move on to the third round. On day two, the newcomer took the best of three over Navy's Kacey Moore, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1. Feodorov completed a perfect weekend and punched her ticket to super regionals after defeating George Washington's Katarina Marinkovikj in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Minorka Miranda saw her own success throughout the weekend, defeating two of three opponents after having a first round bye. On day one, Miranda took down George Washington's Alexandra Vesikallio 6-4, 6-0, and followed with another victory on Saturday defeating Karly Friedland 6-3, 7-6(2). The Terp then fell against number 1 seed, Yvonna Zuffova, from Penn State in the final round of qualifying (2-6, 2-6).
Senior Vera Markovic finished the weekend strong with two victories in the consolation draw after having to retire from her first round match vs Danielle Alamo from Penn State. On Saturday, Markovic made light work of Christy Turner 6-0 6-2, then capped the weekend off with a 6-4 6-3 victory over fellow Serbian, Iva Jankovic from Coppin State.
Jojo Bach had an incredible weekend for the Terps. After a first round bye, Bach moved on to the second round after Olivia Ashton retired with Bach up 3-1. The sophomore then faced Olivia Ryan of conference foe Penn State, and defeated the Nittany Lion in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. Bach then secured her spot to the super regionals after taking down Ana Utrilla Benito from Duquesne, 6-4, 6-2.
Mary Brumfield also brought home three wins for Maryland and secured herself a spot in Charlottesville. Brumfield first defeated Nadia Pegram in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, then continued her winning streak over Grace Hashiguchi from George Mason, coming out on top 6-0, 7-5. Brumfield wrapped up the weekend with a victory over Delaware's Juleta Honrubia 6-3, 6-3.
Selma Cadar kept the victories rolling for the Terps, starting with a win over Nolwenn Cardosa from Coppin State 6-0, 6-3. Cadar then defeated Agata Mikos from Georgetown, 6-2, 6-2 to set herself up for an incredible victory over George Washington's Stella Wiesemann. The Terp battled back from an 0-6 0-4 deficit to win twelve straight games to clinch the match 0-6, 6-4, 6-0.
With four Terps qualifying this weekend and grad student Marta Perez Mur being awarded a direct acceptance, five Terps will appear in the Super Regionals main draw, as well as two Maryland doubles teams.
The Tennis Terps will be back in action in Annapolis for the Blue & Gold Invite hosted by Navy, Oct. 8-10.
