Hughes Inks a Pair to 2022 Class

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland volleyball team announced two additions today as Laila Ivey and Ally Williams both signed their commitments today on National Signing Day. 

Ivey, a Maryland native, and Williams, a Missouri native, will join a rising program that currently has 18 wins heading into the final three weekends of action.

Before Maryland: Four-year varsity athlete at Oakville High School...Finished with over 1,000 digs in high school career...First-Team All-District and Second-Team All-Conference as a junior...Two-time District Champion...Competed for Rockwood Thunder...National Qualifier every season...Finished 9th in the nation in 2021...Third-Place finish at 14-Open at Beach Nationals

Personal: Father is United States Air Force - Retired...Mother played softball at Lindenwood University...Sister, Alexis, plays volleyball at South Florida..Also has a brother, Brandon, who's disabilities inspire her to compete...Sports hero is Victoria Gerrick..Wants to be a pediatric nurse...Enjoys painting, watching movies, and hanging out with friends and family...Also considered Michigan State, Arkansas, NC State, and South Florida among others before choosing Maryland.
 
Ally Williams on Maryland: "When I got on the phone with the coaches and some of the players, they made me feel welcome and comfortable. Big Ten volleyball is the best conference and it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. I knew Maryland was for me."
Head coach Adam Hughes: "Thrilled to have Ally Williams sign with us today. She plays for one of the top Midwestern club teams. She's incredibly quick, great in serve-receve, and she's going to make a ton of plays for us. She's actually a really great beach player but also brings a lot of energy to the court."
