COLLEGE PARK, MD – As the Maryland Terrapins tip off the 2021-22 basketball season inside XFINITY Center, the athletic department announced Chesapeake Employers' Insurance Company as its first-ever naming rights partner for the exclusive 1856 Premium Club. The five-year agreement, brokered by Maryland Sports Properties of Playfly Sports, will rebrand the premium hospitality suite as the Chesapeake Club.
"We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Chesapeake Employers Insurance and welcome Terrapin supporters to the Chesapeake Club," said
Brian Ullmann, Executive Associate Athletic Director/Chief Strategy Officer. "As we welcome fans back to XFINITY Center, we continue to seek new and creative ways to enhance the in-venue experience and this renovated space is indicative of that."
The 1856 Premium Club has been a marquee entertainment space inside the XFINITY Center since 2019, welcoming up to 60 Terrapin fans per game with all-inclusive food and beverage options and unbroken views of the on-court action in an elevated VIP setting.
"It is an honor to elevate our partnership with University of Maryland Athletics by acquiring the naming rights of the 1856 Premier Club," said Tom Phelan, CEO of Chesapeake Employers' Insurance Company. "We are excited to continue our relationship for the next five years by being a part of this first-rate venue for college basketball."
"This newly renovated space will allow Chesapeake Employers' Insurance Company to expose their brand to the Terps' passionate fan and alumni base in addition to hosting their clients in Maryland's best venue to watch basketball," said
Jack Krabbe, General Manager of Maryland Sports Properties. "The strategic alignment between Maryland and Chesapeake Employers Insurance has been a long-standing relationship and we look forward to taking the partnership to this exciting next level."
The Terrapins are ranked No. 20 in the nation and off to a 3-0 start. More information about the Chesapeake Club
