COLLEGE PARK, MD – Two members of the sixth-ranked Maryland field hockey squad earned All-Big Ten honors Wednesday. Hope Rose was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team. Fifth-year senior Brooke DeBerdine was named to the All-Big Ten First Team.
Sophomore Logan Anderson earned a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
This is the second straight season DeBerdine earned All-Big Ten First Team honors. She has started in 100 career games, more than any Terrapin in program history. DeBerdine, the Terps' team captain, was named to the Big Ten Players to Watch list and the 20201 NFHCA Senior All Star Game.
Rose led all Big Ten freshmen with eight goals, five in league play, this season. She was second on the Maryland squad in scoring. Rose added three assists this year as well. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times this year. Rose is the 12th Terrapin to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors. Most recently, senior Bibi Donraadt earned the honor in 2018.
Rose helped the US Under-22 squad win bronze at the Junior Pan American Cup in August.
The sixth-seeded Terps (13-5) will take on third-seeded Penn State (13-4) in the Big Ten Field Hockey Quarterfinals Thursday at 5 p.m. at Rutgers' Bauer Track & Field Complex. The Terps-Nittany Lions matchup will be streamed on B1G+.
