NEW YORK, NY -- Two former Maryland players and current NFL stars, J.C. Jackson and Stefon Diggs, were selected to the 2022 Pro Bowl, the NFL announced Wednesday evening.
Jackson, who has solidified himself as one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, coining the nickname "Mr. INT" was chosen as one of two cornerback starters in the AFC alongside Dolphins CB Xavien Howard. This marks the first pro bowl nod of Jackson's career in his fourth year in the league.
Jackson's seven interceptions this season are the second-most in the NFL, behind Dallas' Trevon Diggs (10). He has has the most interceptions since entering the NFL in 2018 as an undrafted free agent with 24 picks. Those 24 interceptions in his first four NFL seasons are tied with Pro Football Hall of Famer Kenny Easley and Richard Sherman for the third-most by a player in his first four seasons since 1970. Only Lester Hayes (25) and Everson Walls (25) have more.
The two-year Terp, suiting up for Maryland in 2016 & 2017, is the first Maryland defensive starter in the Pro Bowl since Kris Jenkins ('00) started at defensive tackle in 2009.
Diggs, one of the premier wide receivers in the NFL, makes his second-consecutive Pro Bowl after being named a starter in his First Team All-Pro 2020 season. He is the only wide receiver in Bills history with more than 80 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards two years in a row. The seventh-year veteran has 82 (12th most) catches for 1,007 yards (tied for 12th most) and eight touchdowns (tied for 8th most) through 14 games this season.
The three-year Terp (2012-14) is the first Maryland player to make consecutive Pro Bowls since Shawne Merriman made three in a row from 2005-07 and the first offensive player to make two in a row since Frank Wycheck (1998-00). Diggs is only the 10th Terp ever to make back-to-back Pro Bowls (Merriman, 2005-07; Jenkins, 2002-03; Wycheck, 1998-2000; Kevin Glover, 1995-97; Ferrell Edmunds, 1989-90; Boomer Esiason, 1988-89; Randy White, 1977-85, Gary Collins, 1965-66 & Stan Jones, 1955-61).
The 2022 Pro Bowl will take place on Sunday, February 6 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada and be broadcast on ESPN & ABC.
