COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland women's golf head coach
Diana Cantu has been named an Assistant Coach of the international team at the 2021 Arnold Cup, as announced on Wednesday. The event will be held at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., June 11-13.Â
Co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) in 1997, the Ryder Cup-style event featured the top male university golfers matching the United States against Europe. In 2018, women were included to corresponding matchups, making the Arnold Palmer Cup the only major tournament to feature men and women playing side-by-side as partners.Â
"I am excited and humbled to be named Assistant Coach of the international team at the 2021 Arnold Palmer cup," Cantu said. "This prestigious event brings together the best female and male amateur players to compete on the world stage for an exceptional week of golf. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of the International Team, it is a dream come true!"
Cantu is in her sixth season as the head coach of the Maryland women's golf team. The Terps have been ranked as high as No. 14 by Golfstat this season, the highest ranking in program history. The 2018-19 program became the first to receive an NCAA Regionals bid in over seven years under her direction.Â
