College Park, MD – The Maryland track and field team kicked off the 2021 outdoor season at day one of the Maryland Invitational, Friday.
Maryland had a successful first day at the Maryland Invitational. Day one featured field events with the Javelin, Hammer, and High Jump being contested.Â
Alice Barnsdale and
Angel Nkwonta had podium finishes with 2nd and 3rd place finishes respectively in the Hammer Throw. Â

Men's Notes
Junior
Kaithon McDonald cleared 2.03m in the Men's High Jump for a 2nd place finish.
Freshman
Hayden Tobias competed in the Men's Hammer Throw for the first time and achieved a mark of 48.37m.
Freshman
Bryce Middleton also competed for the Terps in the Men's High Jump.
Women's Notes
Alice Barnsdale (61.68m) and
Angel Nkwonta (61.02m) led the Terps in the Hammer throw. The duo placed second and third to earn podium finishes. Nkwonta's mark ranks 4th all-time. Barnsdale already holds the school record in this event.
Junior
Kamryn Henderson set a new personal record in the Women's Hammer Throw with a mark of 50.35m.
Sarah George competed for the Terps in the Women's Hammer Throw with a mark of 49.16m.
Junior
Lillian Hill (38.09m) and freshman
Jessica Sutter (40.23m) qualified for the Women's Javelin finals. Sutter's mark of 40.23m ranks 4th all time in this event.
Sophomore
Chloe Royce cleared 1.65m in the Women's High Jump.
Coach's Comments
"We had great momentum in the field events today to kick off competition. Our athletes are coming out strong this outdoor season setting personal best marks on our home turf. We will continue to take advantage of the opportunity to compete and make our mark this season."
