Athletics Photographer

The University of Maryland Athletics Photographer will play a lead role in developing high-performing digital imagery and packaged content for the Terrapins' digital and social channels, including the team's official website and social channels. The Athletics Photographer will be a brand storyteller. This will include capturing, producing and posting in-game and pre/post-game imagery, as well as practices, facilities, team and Terrapin Club events, etc.

The Athletics Photographer will be responsible for dynamic high-quality portrait images for recruiting, marketing, branding and all external collateral. He/she will also be responsible for auditing and recommending enterprise-wide photography solutions for the entire athletic department. The Athletics Photographer will help evolve to create relevant content and stronger stories through unique and powerful imagery. He/she will meet with stakeholders to determine multimedia project needs, requirements and timelines.

The Athletics Photographer will supervise and train a group of student photographers, oversee the athletic department's digital asset management system, properly identify and archive images, and be social-media friendly with the creation of images.

This position will report to the Associate Athletic Director/Strategic Communications Director and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent education, experience, and training and a minimum of three years of experience in sports photography is required. Demonstrated talent for high-quality photography, both action and still/portrait. Demonstrated ability with recruiting and marketing photoshoots. Ability to meet deadlines under pressure and prioritize tasks based on departmental priorities. Must work closely and respond to the needs of various constituencies throughout campus. Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays (non-standard work hours/days) as well as occasional travel. Preferences: Experience in creating image-based storytelling content; Experience with lightning and arranging of high-level photography shoots; Experience managing a large database of digital images strongly preferred. Previous experience working in college athletics or professional team sports is preferred. Hiring and supervision of student/intern/free lance staff is preferred. Experience working with a NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) solutions company (i.e., Opendorse, INFLCR) preferred.
