Terrapin Club Member Spotlight: Susan Wilkes

What motivates you to give so generously?
Susan: My husband and I love Maryland Athletics and all that sports represent to the student athletes and the university as a whole. The trill of victory, the team approach to accomplishing a goal, and work ethic needed to succeed.
Do you have a message for current Terrapin Club donors and fans?
Susan: Thank you to all the members of the Terrapin Club. If you are not a member -- PLEASE join us.   Memberships begin at $55 per year and every dollar raised goes to provide scholarships for 500+ student athletes. As the Past President of the Terrapin Club, I know that every dollar raised by the Terrapin Club goes to the bottom line of the scholarship bill each year.
Do you have an anecdote about Maryland Athletics or the Terrapin Club that you would share?
Susan: I am just a fan, a big fan of everything Maryland. It could be a game of checkers or some other non sporting event,  but if you put a Maryland Jersey on one of the players/contestants -  I am all of a sudden interested and cheering for a win. It's Maryland Pride I guess.
Who is on your Mount Rushmore of Maryland Athletics
Susan: The Student Athlete, The Coach, The Fan, and Testudo. (no way to name just four! -- so many great athletes, so many great coaches, and some very special fans!)
What do you hope Maryland Athletics will achieve next year?
Susan:  CHAMPIONSHIPS!
If you could go back in time and witness one Terps game live (in any sport), what would it be and why?
Susan:  It would be our Men's Basketball Game against Stanford in Anaheim California in 2001. That was a magical game and advanced to the final four for the first time in school history. It was a great trip, amazing team, and a memory I will never forget.
What do you want to see Maryland Athletics achieve moving forward?
Susan: Excellence in everything that we do. On the courts, on the fields, and in the classrooms.
What is the first Maryland game you ever went to?
Susan: I don't remember the first as i feel like I have been going to games forever. I am a Terp by birth and have been cheering for the Terps since childhood.
What makes Maryland Athletics so special?
Susan: The involvement is what is so special. The community created around our student athletes and teams, the friendships made with other fans and Terrapin Club members, and the brotherhood and sisterhood of the Terps family. I love all that surrounds the journey of competition and the effort it takes to compete.
