Damon Evans announced the hiring of
Libby Ellis as the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Administration. Ellis will start her new position on June 7, 2021. Ellis has spent the last eight years as the Director of Basketball Operations for Maryland's nationally-renowned women's basketball program, serving in the role since August 2013.
"Libby Ellis is a Terrapin through and through and we are thrilled to name her our new Associate Athletic Director for Sports Administration," said Evans. "Libby is incredibly organized and detailed and will do a wonderful job in her new role. Her connection with student-athletes and coaches is very strong and we look forward to her making an impact with so many of our programs, at a university she has tremendous passion for."
In her new role, Ellis will supervise a variety of sports, manage all Big Ten and NCAA Championship events, lead all Teamworks communications initiatives, assist and coordinate with camps and clinics, and serve as the lead for the Sports Administrators Team.
"I'm incredibly honored to accept this opportunity to serve more of the phenomenal coaches and student-athletes here at my alma mater, the University of Maryland," said Ellis. "I'd like to thank Damon Evans and Colleen Sorem for their belief in me, and their commitment to developing staff within our athletic department.
"I'm so grateful for the mentorship of Brenda Frese over the last nine years, and cannot thank her enough for allowing me to be a part of her exceptional women's basketball program. Brenda has always demonstrated integrity, work ethic, and the value of genuine relationships, and I look forward to utilizing what I've learned from her in this new role. I'm thrilled to continue my career here at the place I'll always call 'home.' "
Overall, Ellis spent 13 years with the women's basketball program and she was part of seven conference regular-season championships and seven conference tournament titles, serving under head coach Brenda Frese.
"Libby has been a star for us with our women's basketball program," said Frese. "We are excited for her to receive this well-deserved opportunity in the athletic department. Libby has been a part of the fabric of our team for more than a decade and I am very grateful for her professionalism and more importantly, her friendship. She is a driven, passionate individual and I couldn't be happier for her to move into this new role."
A 2012 graduate of Maryland, Ellis was a four-year manager for the Terrapins. In her senior season, she served as a director of operations intern, assisting with all responsibilities of scheduling, travel planning and general program operations. She earned her degree in kinesiology and after graduation, she was hired as the coordinator of recruiting operations.
Ellis earned her Masters of Business Administration from University of Maryland University College in 2018.
