COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland field hockey head coach Missy Meharg welcomed Terrapin alumna Kasey Tapman Asper to her staff as an assistant coach Wednesday. Tapman Asper played for the Terrapins from 2011-15 and was on the Terps' 2011 NCAA Championship squad.
Tapman Asper, a native of Pocomoke City, Md., served as the Terrapins' volunteer assistant coach through the 2018 and 2019 seasons, helping to break down game film, working with the defensive penalty corner unit and assisting with travel and camps.
"I couldn't be more pleased to have Kasey Tapman Asper join the staff on a full-time basis," Meharg said. "She's been a fantastic volunteer coach for the last three years and through a challenging time and being one of Maryland's best student-athletes out of high school. Kasey is a Terp through and through and we can't wait to get to work."
This past weekend, Tapman Asper earned her first cap with the USA National Indoor Squad and won gold in the Pan American Games.
In her playing career at Maryland, Tapman Asper played in 77 games and served as team captain her senior year. The Terrapins won three league titles in her career.
"I am truly honored and grateful to be back at my alma mater," Tapman Asper said. "I am excited for the new journey with such an amazing leadership team! Maryland is truly home."
Over the last six years, Tapman Asper also coached with a local club program, Freedom HKY, directing the U14, U16 and U19 groups. This past winter, she started UnTapped Talent, a program to run local clinics, camps and lessons around the area.
Tapman Asper earned her degree in kinesiology in 2015. She is married to former Terrapins wrestler, Josh Asper.
