WASHINGTON, DC – In a battle of top 10 teams, No. 7 Maryland (4-1) suffered their first defeat of the season to the hands of No. 1 Georgetown (5-0), 1-0. The Hoyas got on the board early as a goal in the sixth minute quickly put the Terps on their heels. Goalie Jamie Lowell remained under siege for the next 15 minutes of the game as Georgetown managed to put four more shots on him with two of them requiring saves. Maryland weathered the initial storm and began to punch back as Jacen Russell-Rowe fired the team's first shot on goal but it was saved by the Hoyas goalie. Towards the end of the first half the Terps began to buzz around the Georgetown net but a shot by Justin Gielen rang off the right post, preserving the lead for the Hoyas heading into halftime. The physical play carried over to the second half as both team's continued to fight for position. Head coach Sasho Cirovski tried to spark his offense by issuing several substitutions but it was to no avail as the Terps couldn't find the equalizer.
