Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Maryland and St Joe's Battle to 0-0 Draw

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Maryland and St. Joe's battled every step of the way but neither were able to solve the other as the game ended in a 0-0 draw.  Maryland (4-1-1) dominated the first half by peppering nine shots towards the St. Joe's goalie with six of them requiring a save. The Terps however could not crack the Hawks goalie and went into the half with a 0-0 stalemate. The second half was a considerably slower affair with both teams struggling to find any momentum. St Joe's managed to put a few more shots towards goalie Liz Brucia but the netminder stood strong. When the Hawks did put a shot behind Brucia, defender Olivia Hicks leapt into the cage and booted the ball away, preserving the scoreless game.

Toni Domingos's shot in the 77th minute required a difficult save by the Hawks goalie, frustrating the Terps offense. Mikayla Dayes's shot in the waning minutes of the game proved to be the last great chance of regulation but again the Terps came up just short of breaking through. Dayes's kept battling in the overtime period and nearly scored after she volleyed to herself. While the Terps had the majority of chances throughout both regulation and overtime, they couldn't find the winning goal that they needed.

First Half Pressure
Great Goaltending
  • Brucia's efforts weren't needed in the first half but coming out of the break the graduate transfer was instrumental in keeping the Terps in the game.
  • The Westfield, New Jersey native made two total saves and delivered her third clean sheet of the season.

Hicks Saves The Day
  • The Maryland defense was also busier in the second half compared to the first but none were busier than Olivia Hicks
  • After Brucia got caught out of position, Hicks sprinted back towards the goal line and was able to clear the ball away before the Hawks could take the lead.

Going The Distance
Up Next
  • The Terps will return home for a Thursday night game against the Penn Quakers.
  • It will mark the first ever women's soccer matchup between Maryland and Penn.
